Sam Sommer
Sam Sommer, B.B.A. Investment Funds Advisor

Born in the back seat of a 1976 Toyota Corolla in the middle of a snowstorm, Sam came into this world learning a lesson that has stuck with him to this day: check your snow tires when travelling on winter roads. This simple lesson has become the bedrock of his professional mission to clients; if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

Sam is a devoted husband to his wife Brooke and father to his charismatic son Jack, but not without often creating friction by passing on family functions for tee times with the boys. Fortunately, due to his understanding of saving for the future, Sam always has spare points with his wife built up for times like these - “if you want to succeed tomorrow, be sure to prepare today”.

Sam is an avid gardener and enjoys growing a variety of berries, ranging from thornless blackberries to haskaps. When asked to explain his affinity for berries in particular, he’ll respond by stating that “a pound of carrots costs $1.50 and a pound of strawberries costs $15.00”, further showing that his unrelenting attention to financial planning is undeniable. Sam is also a board member and volunteer of the Gardengate Horticulture Program, a program committed to food security for vulnerable members within the local community.

A TRU School of Business graduate, Sam took a roundabout way finding his footing in the financial services industry. Early in his career, he often fought top-down pressure to fit clients into boxes that they had no business fitting into. After a brief tenure in the traditional institutional service channel, Sam broke free to independence and has never looked back. Make no mistake, Sam works for his clients and no one else; this unique mindset is evident by his deep connections with clients and his drive to find them tailored solutions.
